Nokia Unveils 41 Megapixels Smartphone - The Nokia Lumia 1020

During the last few years, smartphone cameras have vastly improved. Samsung, Sony, HTC & Nokia have made some really powerful camera phones. Few days ago, Nokia unveiled a new handset i.e., Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows Phone. This windows 8 phone has blown its competitors like Galaxy S4 & Xperia Z out of the water with its impressive 41 Megapixels Carl Ziess sensor.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop unveiled this phone, calling it a "Flagship device" at an event in New York City on Tuesday. According to him, the phone will be available in USA from July 26 for $300 with a two year contract. It will be available worldwide in the later quarter of this year.

The phone's camera is capable of capturing 41MP images in either 3:2 or 16:9 aspect ratio. It can also create a 5MP version of image for sharing on social networking sites. The phone's camera also has optical image stabilization. A Xenon flash, which is technically better than LED flash, helps the camera to capture sharp images in low light with good color accuracy.

Nokia's tagline for the phone is "Zoom Reinvented", however it does not have optical zoom, instead it allows for digital zooming while retaining the picture clarity. It can capture Full HD video and also have a pre-installed app called Nokia Pro Camera which allows user to use advance features of the camera like exposure, shutter speed & ISO.

Other Features & Specifications

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is powered with Dual Core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, a 4.5 inch 1280x768 (332 ppi) AMOLED WXGA display and 2 GB of RAM. It has 32 GB internal storage with additional 7 GB Skydrive cloud storage. It also has a 1.2MP front HD camera for video calling. 

It runs on Windows 8 operating system. It has 2000 mAH battery and is capable of running on LTE network (where available). It is available in three colors i.e., Yellow, Black and White.

Drawbacks

Due to its high resolution images taken with 41MP camera, it would eat up the internal storage very quickly. So it would be better if it comes with 64 GB internal storage or atleast a MicroSD card slot so that we can expand the storage.
