18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul is the sixth installment of the most popular truck driving simulation game series. Released on December 3, 2007, it soon became the most interesting game due to its long driving routes.

It has almost 45+ highly detailed cities from USA, Canada & Mexico with 30+ trucks, 45+ cargoes and 47+ trailers.

Today I will tell you some interesting tips and tricks of this game which some of you already know but majority does not. These are simple tips and tricks so by using them, you will master this game easily.

1. How to increase the speed of truck?

a. Upgrade Your Truck 

By upgrading your truck with powerful parts, you can surely increase its speed and performance. You should have some extra cash in your account to purchase parts. To upgrade your truck, go to any Service Station and click on Upgrade. Now choose the parts and buy them.

b. Use Manual Transmission

This is the most simple trick you can use to significantly increase the truck speed. I know that almost 90% gamers use Automatic Transmission in this game but if you change the Transmission to Manual then you can add up about 20-25mph more. By following this trick, I drive at almost 105+ speed.

To change the transmission, pause the game, then go to Options > Gameplay and change to transmission to Manual.

2. How to save fuel?

Using this trick, you can save your fuel upto 95%. All you have to do is to drive with Cruise Control "on". To turn on the Cruise Control, just press "C" and your truck will drive at that speed where you set the Control. Keep in mind that if you press Accelerate or Brake button then it will turn off the Cruise Control. To apply brakes during while driving with Cruise Control, use Handbrake (Space button) or Motor Brake (B).

3. How to deceive police?

If you violate any traffic law, then police will never let you leave without challan. But there is a way you can deceive the police. All you have to do is that when you see the bar with a star symbol become red, go inside any Cargo Company because there, police will never follow you, and wait till the bar decreases to less than 25%. In this way, you will deceive the police.

4. Earn cash without using any cheat code

Lot of gamers use cheat codes for making money by shortcuts. But very few people know that with a very simple trick, you can earn some serious cash without using cheats. So lets see how you can do this:

Start a new game and deliver cargo to any three cities without any damage. Also, mostly drive with Cruise Control so that you can save the fuel. Make sure to earn about 50-60K dollars from these three deliveries.  After completing three deliveries, go to any Hotel (shown on map with H sign), press Enter and you will find a driver available for hiring. Just hire him.

Now go to any Used Trucks Dealer (shown with D on map) and buy a used truck under $40000. After it, press N and create a contract with any one company for which you delivered the cargo, assign the driver you hired and truck. Now, the driver you hired will start delivering cargo and all his income will be transferred in your account. You just have to pay his weekly salary which is not more than $800. In this way, you will earn thousands of dollars from him.

5. How to buy a fast truck without using money cheat?

When you start this game, you have to drive the slowest truck but don't worry, with very less time and effort, you can buy the most powerful and fast truck in this game.

First of all, follow the Point #4. After you hire a driver and assigned him a truck, just advance the time to 40-50 days. During this time, the hired driver will keep delivering cargo and you will receive cash. When you see that you have more than 300K dollars, then order a fast truck and upgrade it with powerful equipments. By this trick, you will able to drive the fastest truck of this game after only 3 deliveries.

6. How to disable the police and fatigue?

In this game, the two most irritating things which stops you from driving at high speed are police and fatigue. Though you can deceive the police to some extent but after every 12 minutes, driver will face fatigue so you have to advance the time to give rest to driver. This is no option in the game to turn off the police and fatigue but you can do this by modifying a game file.

• Go to My Documents > 18 WoS American Long Haul.
• Here you will see a file named "config.cfg"
• Open this file in notepad.
• Now look for uset g_fatigue "1" & uset g_police "1"
• Just replace the 1 with 0.
• Now you have done.

7. How to make the traffic to not overtake you?

Do you want that traffic never overtakes you? You can do this by turning the four way flasher "On". To turn on the four way flasher, press "F".

8. How to drive fast in high traffic?

Simple trick, just drive on the emergency lane.
