Real Democracy vs Family Planning: The Current Political Show in Pakistan

Imran Khan's Fight for the Real Democracy
It's almost been 2 weeks that every Pakistani is focused on the biggest political fight going in Capital. Yes, I'm talking about the two marches "Azadi and Inqilab (Revolution) March" lead by two greats Imran Khan (the former star cricketer) and Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri (the great Islamic scholar).

Both parties are fighting to free the Pakistani politics from some so called democrats whose basic aim is to run family politics to gain their personal benefits. In the last elections held in May 2013, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) came into power but soon it was clarified that the elections were badly rigged.

Reported by the national as well as international media, video proofs about rigging were given. Even the Interior Minister of Pakistan, Ch. Nisar Ali Khan (who is also the right hand of Nawaz Sharif) said that about 70-80K votes in every constituency are those which cannot be verified. Let me clear that after these elections, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) became the second biggest political party.

Imran Khan, the chairman of PTI, after knowing that elections were rigged and most importantly, their mandate was stolen; he challenged this election in the parliament and asked for the clear investigation in any four constituencies. He also threatened government that he will protest if his demands are not fulfilled. Unfortunately, the government didn't show any responsibility given to them.

Meanwhile, on the order of Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif (brother of Nawaz Sharif), 17 people of Pakistani Awami Tehreek of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri were killed and over 90 were injured due to the firing of punjab police in Lahore.

As a result of this, Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri and Imran Khan decided to lead a million march against the brutality of this government. They demanded the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Nawaz Sharif to resign. Let me remind you that this is the sixth time, Nawaz's party was came into power and the third time he was nominated as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Both, Imran Khan & Tahir-ul-Qadri have clear stance against the government. They have given this 6 points agenda to the government:
  1. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should resign immediately
  2. Assemblies should be dissoived
  3. An interim government should take control of the state
  4. New election commission should be formed
  5. This election commission should made electoral reforms and introduce the biometric electoral system
  6. After these, new elections should be held
If we look at these demands, all of them are clear, legitimate and under the constitution of Pakistan. But, the so called democratic parties (PPP and PML N) refused and said that Prime Minister will never resign just because to protect democracy.

Today, PML N is talking about to protect the democracy and the parliamentary parties support PML N to protect the so called democracy (basic point is to protect their personal assets). On the other hand, Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri claimed that there is no democracy in this country.

Actually, if I consider democracy definition on a side and system on other, then there is a clear difference in results which support my personal opinion that there is no real democracy in this country. In fact, it is family planning. Here, the rich becomes more rich and the poor becomes poorer.

Democracy is not that you got elected by the people for 5 years and now, you are not answerable to them for the next given period. It is not about you stole the people mandate. It is not about you stop people to express their feeling. Democracy is not that a family comes in the GOVT and distribute all major posts between their relatives. Democracy is public’s government. In democracy, you got these basic things i.e.,
  • Freedom of speech
  • Freedom of religion
  • Justice at your door step
  • Better education (same for rich and poor)
  • Better health facilities
  • Social security
If we look at the current setup, then it has to be changed. Great like Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Umer (RA), Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Gandhi and most recently, the great Nelson Mandela fight for the equal rights i.e., same for the poor and rich. Everyone opposed them but they never quit and at last, they won and everyone admitted that they were right.

Today, we are in a similar kind of situation. Now we have to decide either we free ourselves from these so called democrats and change our fate or be ready for yet another family politics.

Special Thanks to my friend Muhammad Ahmad for helping me in this article.
