All the Big Moments in Android's History [Infographic]

History of Android
Big Android fan? The mobile operating system has come a long way since consumers first got their hands on the HTC Dream in 2008, and now it’s arguably the most powerful OS on the market. It wasn’t always that way—Android had a pretty rough start to life, but it has since risen to be the most popular mobile choice. With Android 5.0 Lollipop—easily the best version—Android’s lead is looking pretty secure at the top.

It’s fun to look back and see where it all started, and also see the key moments that shaped Android’s current position. Remember Eclair? Donut? Cupcake? There have been some big milestones along the way, but things really started to click when Gingerbread hit; soon came Ice Cream Sandwich, and then perhaps Android’s biggest turning point (in terms of quality), Jelly Bean.

Mobile Madhouse’s infographic breaks down all the big releases in Android’s history, describing the biggest features of each. Some major Apple moments are also thrown in there, too, showing how this two horse race has fluctuated over the years. At the bottom, a separate section is dedicated to key Android devices released since the Dream was first released; we have the Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, Nexus 4, Nexus 7, etc., leading right up to the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6.
